Curbside Recycling
What can I put in curbside recycling in Searcy?
We now offer only green bins for recycling. Please sort your items in the following categories:
PLASTIC BOTTLES
Look for the triangle with “1” or “2” on the bottom of the bottle. Include the following items:
Clear and colored beverage bottles
Milk and juice jugs
Ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard bottles
Liquid soap and detergent bottles
Lotion and shampoo bottles
Plastic coffee containers
Remove lid, empty remaining contents and rinse clean. Do not replace lid.
TIPS: It must have a neck to be a bottle, no butter or whipped topping containers, no auto fluid, pesticide, herbicide or pool chemical bottles.
ALUMINUM & TIN CANS
Household beverage and food cans.
Empty contents and rinse clean. Metal lids can be dropped into the opened can. Labels do not need to be removed.
TIPS: No gas cans, wet paint cans or aerosol cans.
PAPER PRODUCTS & CARDBOARD
Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, phone books, books (with binding removed), junk mail, office and school papers. Remove mail from plastic mailers.
No construction or dark papers
No contaminants (gum, art projects)
Keep paper dry
Flattened cardboard boxes, pizza boxes (food free), dry food, etc.
TIPS: No waxed, frozen food, cereal or beverage cartons. Cardboard can be taken wet or dry! Wet paper cannot be recycled – it will be thrown away.
Where to recycle other items:
Plastic Bags - Take them back to major chains - WalMart, Kroger, etc. Use as can liners or to sack recyclables.
Rechargeable Batteries - Electronic stores like Radio Shack, Staples, WalMart usually accept these items.
Used Motor Oil - Return it where you purchased it – Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, O-Reilly’s, or WalMart.
