City of Searcy Awarded $500,000 TAP Grant for Sidepath Connecting High School to Downtown

The City of Searcy is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $500,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (AR DOT). This grant will fund the construction of a 12-foot-wide, two-way sidepath designed for both bicycles and pedestrians. The sidepath will run along Arch Street, connecting Searcy High School to downtown Searcy and linking to existing sidewalks that provide access to Southwest Middle School and Ahlf Junior High.

“This grant is a huge step forward for Searcy,” Mayor Mat Faulkner said. “Improving connectivity across our community is a top priority, and this sidepath will not only provide a safe, convenient route for students and residents but will also enhance the walkability and bikeability of our city. We’re excited to see this project take shape.”

The sidepath is part of a larger effort to create a more accessible and connected community. With its location bridging schools and the downtown area, the project will encourage alternative transportation methods and promote healthier lifestyles for residents of all ages.

“The Arch Street sidepath is a critical piece of our master plan for sidewalks and trails,” City Planner Richard Stafford said. “Our goal is to create a network that links neighborhoods, schools, parks, downtown, healthcare, grocery stores and more, making Searcy a safer and more accessible community for everyone.”
