City of Searcy Joins Entergy Arkansas CitySmart Program to Boost Energy Efficiency
The City of Searcy has partnered with the Entergy Arkansas CitySmart Program, an Entergy Solutions initiative designed to enhance energy efficiency while reducing operational costs. This partnership reflects the city’s commitment to sustainability, fiscal responsibility, and reinvestment in the community.
The CitySmart Program offers technical resources and incentives for a variety of energy efficiency projects, ranging from lighting upgrades and HVAC system improvements to Continuous Energy Improvement (CEI) training. Through CEI, city employees are trained to adopt energy-saving habits such as closing blinds, turning off lights when leaving offices, and avoiding propped-open doors. These measures, combined with strategic infrastructure upgrades, will enable Searcy to operate more efficiently and save money that can be reinvested into the community.
As part of its participation, the City of Searcy has already completed an Energy Master Planning Workshop and committed to reducing energy usage by 10% by 2028. Recent steps include installing energy-efficient equipment at the new library, completing HVAC system tune-ups, and evaluating energy-efficient options for upcoming projects such as the Community Center and Outdoor Water Park.
Entergy Arkansas estimates that the energy-efficient upgrades at the new library will save approximately 47,076 kWh per year, translating to about $4,700 in annual utility bill savings. The City has also received a $5,649.13 incentive check from Entergy Arkansas for these initiatives.
“Searcy’s participation in the CitySmart Program demonstrates our dedication to being responsible stewards of public funds,” Mayor Mat Faulkner said. “By reducing energy costs and improving efficiency, we can direct those savings into other areas that benefit our residents. This partnership is a fantastic example of how sustainability and smart planning can work hand-in-hand to create a stronger community.”
Todd Welter, Entergy Customer Service Manager, added, “I’m very excited about this partnership with the City of Searcy. I look forward to working with the city to realize improved efficiency and cost savings the CitySmart program will deliver.”
